Our US tour ended in dramatic fashion with four goals, two red cards and - ultimately - a penalty shootout defeat in Washington DC. Both decisions looked harsh. Gareth Bale reduced the deficit for Real Madrid, prodding in from close range after the ball squirmed away from Emi Martinez's grasp under pressure from Marco Asensio. It was Asensio himself who equalised, beating Martinez with a first-time effort from Marcelo's pass. Calum Chambers had a shot kicked off the line and Eddie Nketiah missed a couple of late chances for us, while Martinez kept Madrid at bay with two good saves. And so to penalties. Reiss Nelson scored, Martinez saved from Bale, Thibaut Courtois denied Granit Xhaka and Isco made it 1-1. Bukayo Saka and Raphael Varane scored, but Nacho Monreal hit the post.
